I have been upgrading from older Gnome versions for many years, always
taking my old panel with me. This way, I somehow seem to have missed the
notification area so far.

Hm, it says "notification applet", which to my uneducated mind ;) sounded
just like "an applet which notifies you of events" - and when I hear applet
in conjunction with Gnome, I think of regular Gnome panel applets.

Maybe you could change it into "applet for the notification area of your
desktop environment"? That would have given me enough of a clue.

No, they shouldn't, you're right. But maybe it should be made clearer that
this applet package with a *-gnome name is not a panel applet.

Fair enough, it's your choice. Thanks for your work!
