I have been upgrading from older Gnome versions for many years, always taking my old panel with me. This way, I somehow seem to have missed the notification area so far. > Second, the description of network-manager-gnome says, that it is a > notification area applet. Hm, it says "notification applet", which to my uneducated mind ;) sounded just like "an applet which notifies you of events" - and when I hear applet in conjunction with Gnome, I think of regular Gnome panel applets. Maybe you could change it into "applet for the notification area of your desktop environment"? That would have given me enough of a clue. > Fifth, there are many other programs, that use a systray icon. But maybe it should be made clearer that this applet package with a *-gnome name is not a panel applet. > I'm intended to close this bug, but first want to hear your comment. Fair enough, it's your choice. Thanks for your work! Richard -- __ _ |_) /| Richard Atterer | \/¯| http://atterer.net ¯ '` ¯
