actually, it's more than that.  /etc/gnome/menus.blacklist lists
more than 150 desktop files, intentionally excluding anything that GNOME
may provide, including KDE, XFCE4, Vim (because after all, GNOME
provides a text-editor).

I don't see anything comparable in the other desktop environments.
(I install all of the ones that I know about, for testing).
