I cannot reproduce this problem with a current Debian sid system (chroot just upgraded). It seems to me that you have some problem with the jade or docbook-dsssl packages. Currently I use jade jade 1.2.1-47 and docbook-dsssl 1.79-4. What versions of these programs are you using?
