And there seem to be a general idea in the systemd development team that
breaking other peoples programs and setup is ok as long as it was
announced up front.

Luckily the Linux kernel development team have a different approach, as
they believe user space programs should not need to be modified when new
kernel versions arrive.  I believe it is part of the reason Linux is
such success.
