 (I'm the interim Maintainer of libgalago; I'm trying to keep changes to
 a minimum.)

 debian/rules calls the upstream "./autogen.sh" script when configure
 isn't present.  I suppose this is particularly meant for snapshots.

 I checked <http://wiki.debian.org/AutomakeTransition> and couldn't see
 whether you intend to remove automake1.4 or whether I should
 build-depend on automake1.4 explicitely.

 (I already noticed that upstream still uses automake1.4 to prepare its
 tarballs, but I didn't have time to question this behavior yet.)
