Thanks for bringing this up, should be fixed with:

even though I specifically put this in /etc/sbuild/sbuild.conf:

$chroot_mode = "schroot";

That should not be needed as sbuild uses schroot on Hurd by default.

But I was still not able to build packages, it does not even install the build dependencies.
