This bug is fixed in the last upstream version (2.8.4) [1], but this version breaks binary-compatibility needed by some programs (including non-free ones) [2]. There are some discussions about branching the library [3], and I won't package anything before they come to a solution. If I have some free time, I will try to backport the fix, but I need to be sure that it won't break something before.
