Package: fsh Version: 1.2-6 After updating my system to the latest unstable, I can confirm I am also experiencing this bug. Most cvs commands when the fsh tunnel isn't already running hang. A few, such as "cvs status" display output before hanging. My repository is on a 3.1 (sarge) server.
As fsh has not changed since December of 2005, my first guess would be a recent change in the cvs client broke fsh, possibly the 1.12.13 new upstream version. Turns out this does seem to be the case - downgrading to cvs 1.12.9-17 fixes this bug. Cc:ing the cvs maintainers to see if they can confirm this is a bug in cvs, or if there has been some change in CVS's behavior with 1.2.13 that requires fsh changes (a feature!).
