Therefore perhaps don't write the man page that way. All I know is I've used Unix / Linux since the 1980s and have never ran into this. So just write the man page the way the GNU people write theirs. What other man pages are there on Debian that mess up that bad? I never encountered any. Even with my narrow Chromebook.
