I just uploaded 2.9.0-5 that handles this better. Rather than installing hiscores.txt directly, I'm installing hiscores.txt.default. Then, I adjusted the postinst to create hiscores.txt only if it does not already exist. To create hiscores.txt, the postinst copies hiscores.txt.default. The content of hiscores.txt is untouched on reinstall, upgrade, and remove. I also added a postrm to remove the file when the package is purged, so everything is cleaned up appropriately.
