After aptitude purge stunnel4; aptitude install stunnel4, there was no
/var/lib/stunnel4 directory, which is used as the chroot directory.
After mkdir /var/lib/stunnel4; chown stunnel4:stunnel4
/var/lib/stunnel4, I was able to start stunnel.
