I believe I have found a reproducible bug in needrestart on a Raspberry Pi 5 running Debian GNU/Linux 13 (Trixie). The system is already running the latest installed Raspberry Pi 5 kernel: Linux pi 6.12.47+rpt-rpi-2712 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.12.47-1+rpt1~bookworm aarch64 GNU/Linux However, needrestart incorrectly reports: Expected linux version: 6.12.47+rpt-rpi-v8 and therefore displays: Pending kernel upgrade! Running "sudo needrestart -v" consistently shows: [Kernel/Linux] Expected linux version: 6.12.47+rpt-rpi-v8 followed by: Pending kernel upgrade! Running kernel version: 6.12.47+rpt-rpi-2712 The warning reappears every time needrestart scans the installed kernels, even after reboot. Both kernel images are correctly installed: linux-image-6.12.47+rpt-rpi-2712 linux-image-6.12.47+rpt-rpi-v8 The verbose output indicates that needrestart selects the generic Raspberry Pi ARM64 kernel (rpt-rpi-v8) as the expected kernel instead of the Raspberry Pi 5 specific kernel (rpt-rpi-2712). Expected behaviour: needrestart should recognize that Raspberry Pi 5 uses the rpt-rpi-2712 kernel flavour and compare the running kernel against that kernel instead of rpt-rpi-v8.
