I use this tool to improve d/copyright files which I see during reviews of NEW or Binary-NEW packages in the NEW QUEUE.
I will show the problem which one example from the package 'rsyslog'.
There are many many files in tests/. I take 'tests/yaml-template-list.sh' This file is under the license ASL-2.0 (Apache-2.0). Decopy itself doesn't detect this file. So as a result lrc is showing the difference between d/copyright which is created with decopy and licensecheck.
I added the support for the tests in rsyslog. I don't really like the short informal license assignments, as they tend to end up having more matches than they should. But I guess it makes sense here. I'll probably check for licensecheck detection parity in the future.
Licensecheck itself is good to detect the licenses if the files. Decopy is good in listing files, copyright and licenses and the license texts.

Sure, let me know and I'll check it out. About the version 0.3.4, in this release I also implemented a long standing feature request, not to list the license files in the debian/copyright. But for your particular usecase you might want to use decopy with --list-license-files so that it shows the licenses that are present in the code base.
