openssh-gssapi is a spin-off of openssh. their binary packages (openssh-server[-gssapi], openssh-client[-gssapi]) deliver the same files, conffiles but dynamic conffiles as well. while files and conffiles are properly handled by dpkg, dynamic conffiles is managed by the postrm maintscript with the help of various helpers. postrm and these helpers are not aware of the Replaces/Conflicts relationships between openssh and openssh-gssapi binary packages and cannot behave correctly by removing the dynamic conffiles (systemd sym links, etc). This leads to a situation where purging one variant breaks the counterpart when the latter is installed on the system. One solution is to make openssh and openssh-gssapi postrm script aware of the situation and do the necessary to not break the counterpart package (easiest decision is to skip the purging action entirely).
