Package: fd-find Version: 10.5.0-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Previously reported
at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=936036 - was closed and archived,
it had some blockers preventing issue from being resolved, they're probably gone by now,
so reporting again. `fd-find` package bundles completions - e.g.
`/usr/share/fish/completions/fd.fish`. `fdfind` upstream is typically installed as `fd`,
but since this name collides with other Debian package (
https://packages.debian.org/sid/shells/fdclone ), in apt it's installed as `fdfind`. So
when someone is trying to do `fdfind <tab>`, the completions don't work
out-of-the-box, because only `fd.fish` is provided, not `fdfind.fish`. To make bundled
completions work, package is requiring user to symlink `fdfind` as `fd` or add
`/usr/lib/cargo/bin` to the PATH to make `/usr/lib/cargo/bin/fd` accessible. To fix this
there are two possible solutions: - bundle `fdfind.fish` instead of `fd.fish` - that
resolves the issue, but it breaks it for users already relying on `fd.fish`. - but it's
sort of a proper solution for this, because having `fd.fish` means we suggest wrong
completions for `fd` coming from `fdclone` - `fdfind --gen-completions` generates
completions for `fdfind`, not `fd`, so this option is simple in implementation - keep
`fd.fish`, bundle additional `fdfind.fish` (it can either redirect completions to
`fd.fish` or can just duplicate the same instruction but for `fdfind` name) - note that
symlink (`fdfind.fish` -> `fd.fish`) won't work here, because `fd.fish` hardcodes
that it works only for `fd` command - e.g. `complete -c fd -l ignore-vcs -d 'Overrides
--no-ignore-vcs'` - keeps users relying on `fd.fish` happy Since all existing `fdfind`
installations are already affected by this, I'll try to upstream adding a simple
`fdfind.fish` (e.g. just `fdfind --gen-completions fish | source`) to `fish-shell`
itself, so that will resolve it for older packages, but still this needs to be resolved
in Debian package too (also because bash and zsh completions are affected too).
