This bug does not pertain to the iso-codes package but to the locales
package.

What defines the currency symbol is the locale. I briefly checked the
es_UY locale and the error is definitely there.

Look at the /usr/share/i18n/locales/es_UY on your system and more
precisely the "currency_symbol" line:

currency_symbol      "<U004E><U0024>"
