I have the same problem with HP DeskJet 610C. I use the workaround: chmod o+rw /dev/lp0 but it get's reset by the udev on every reboot.
I stubled upon that from this forum: http://www.debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69879&sid=05d3ab004de1be09ab2fef74dce70f5a I basically have the same symptoms as described there: "Unable to open parallel port device file "/dev/lp0": Permission denied" I already loaded the lp module by manually putting it into /etc/modules, this behavior probably also deserves a bug. Before doing so, I got the message: "Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds..." ...and I had to remove the /var/run/cups/cups.sock:631 and leave only localhost:631 with "kcmshell printers" for it to cooperate and display printers in the dialog at all. -- Adrian Dziubek -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
