That confirms my fears, I think the underlying GStreamer helper called
"playbin" doesn't fallback correctly to standard x11 window when xvideo
isn't available or is busy.
I've opened an upstream bug at
<http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=169289>, subscribe to it to
follow the upstream discussion.
This might or might not resolve your particular bug, but should help
going in this direction.
