I've discussed python 2.3 support in pyorbit with other Debian GNOME
maintainers, especially since python-gnome2 depends on pyorbit, and it
seems the best solution is to drop Python 2.3 support in pyorbit and
gnome-python but only when python 2.4 is the default runtime. I've
uploaded the newer pyorbit to experimental for now.
Hence, you should probably simply adapt the package to the new policy
and use the default python runtime ("current") for now.
