As you say, this doesn't happens if you uncheck the option, so I think that this behaviour is on purpose, because it will save memory. If you still think is a bug, you can fill a bug report upstream (or I will do it): http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=30704&atid=400968 However, latest upstream stable version was on December 2004, so I'm not very sure if it will make any effect. The project is not dead, since there are recent commits in the repository, but I think the developers are more worried about version 2.0.
