This is a regression in 2.14.1.  I looked at upstream CVS and saw that
the change was made again after being reverted due to breakage.  I shall
have to change the package to cope with this (which appears to be quite
easy to do, in fact).

I'll split this bug.

I'm going to add error reporting in this case so you can at least tell
that the help function is failing (and why) rather than just being slow.
