At second thought I am quite suprised what has happened at your place. My idea of what should happen in an upgrade situation was: - texlive-base-bin, texlive-doc-base and whatever else is installed in version 2005-1 - all of the packages are tried to be upgraded to the -2 version - the preinst scripts of the packages are unpacked and executed. and here the warning message with the exit 1 should have happened. Strange that it didn't.
