The default place for Gnome to look for icons/pixmaps is /usr/share/pixmaps, but update-manager puts them in /usr/share/icons - the place KDE puts them. This would mean that the application should be instructed to look there - the update-manager.desktop as well as the application. Read more: gnome_program_locate_file(..)
