Package: util-linux Version: 2.12r-10 Severity: wishlist mkswap does not touch the first 1k of the device. This means that if the device was formatted before, it may look like it still has the old format. This fools format detection tools, such as vol_id in the udev package.
Some responders to bug 366853 against udev suggested that mkswap should zero the first 64k of the device to avoid this problem. I am opening this bug to discuss that suggestion.
