Hi,

I'd like to report some similar behavior to what is listed in #360554 and
#370186.

hald-addon-storage is probing my scsi hard disk drives every few seconds,
which causes them to click audibly as the drive heads move all the way from
where they were (parked or doing something else) to wherever the probe needs
them to be. This is,

a) causing the premature wearing of the drive and consumption of power
b) probably hurting performance as it can interrupt streaming reads/writes
c) annoying because of the constant clicking sound

This seems like a bad design decision. Can something else be done to detect
whatever it's probing for? If not then maybe the frequency should be
decreased. (but I guess maybe it wouldn't quickly detect drive changes and pop
up a window or something?)

I agree with the grave severity.
