before the "set -e" in /var/lib/dpkg/info/gnome-panel-data.postinst and

I'm a bit ignorant here. I changed the file and did a reinstall from
aptitude. I didn't see the error I did before, but I see that
afterwards, the file is missing the "set -x" I added.
Did I do what you were asking? Here's the output, anyway
