If a file cannot be read, there should be a warning, not just
a skip.

What could go wrong about management of the vaults if you're not
root on the local machine?

ifconfig needs root access for most of it's operations, and lsof
(which I happen to use a lot as non-root) just happens to be in
/usr/bin. :)
