If you open the XML-Editor before you do "hide Layer 1; select root" you can see it redrawing itself in an endless loop. There is another sequence which will lead the same result: - Open a fresh document. - Open the XML editor. - In the XML editor, duplicate Layer 1. - (In the XML editor, rename the new layer.) - In the status bar, select the old layer. - Press hide and/or lock button. - In the XML editor, select the new layer.
