"In d-i, kbd-chooser's prebaseconfig chroots to /target and runs install-keymap with the user's selected keymap. On 2.4, this works and we get a etc/console/boottime.kmap.gz in target. On 2.6, this has recently stopped working, and we get many repeats of this to stderr (caught into the d-i log):
