After installing the leafnode package, gam_server uses more than half the CPU time on this system. Sending SIGUSR2 to gam_server produced a HUGE dump file, so I killed gam_server and sent SIGUSR2 to the newly started gam_server and still received a file over 550000 lines long. About 6 percent of the lines are of the form: inotify: got IGNORED event for unknown wd 15414 ~/.xsession-errors is filling up with output like: end from FAM server connection invalid length 24902 invalid length 24902 invalid length 24902 Adding the following lines to /etc/gamin/gaminrc: none /var/log/* fsset ext3 notify fsset ext2 notify as mentioned in: http://www.mail-archive.com/desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com/msg31387.html and killing the gam_server process fixed things. COULD THIS PLEASE BE DOCUMENTED AND EXPLAINED?
