Mmh, could this have happened during the great XFree86 -> xorg migration? If I remember correctly, header files and libraries got moved around, and there was a phase when everything was a bit out of sync. For me, gpsd builds fine in clean pbuilder Etch and Sid chroots, so the problem seems to have gone. To verify, what happens if you purge libsm-dev, libxt-dev and then 'apt-get build-dep gpsd' again? On an up-to-date Etch? Cheers, Til
