Hello, I noticed that you are planning to adopt dvipng. Great news.
I had a version of dvipng 1.8 that is packaged and available at
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/dvipng
You might want to improve on that when you build your package.
If you wish I would be willing to be co-maintainer. However,
since I am not (yet) a DD I cannot really help you when you want to
upload your package.
