I'm using "de_DE.UTF-8" as a locale here and do not have any display problems after running ethstatus. Even switching my locale to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" like you use didn't help me reproduce your problem. What terminal program did you use? I tried in KDE's "konsole" here. Please try another one (xterm, konsole, gnome-terminal) or just the text console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) for show and tell.
