So the two problems you have are:
1- cannot burn Audio CDs on CD-R media
2- cannot burn Data CDs on CD-RW media
but the following work:
3- burning Data CDs on CD-R media
4- burning Audio CDs on CD-RW media
Is that correct?

It's strange that it just stopped working for you without updating your
version of K3b.
In order to rule out a broken burner or bad CD media, you could try the
following:
1- burning a CD-R using another frontend to cdrecord such as the
"gnomebaker" package
2- burning a CD-R using another brand of CD-R
