Alas, I still get segmentation fault whenever I click on a menubar option, and the menu popup starts coming up.

If I use --font="...courier...", both widgets and text are courier; if I use
--textfont="...", then the the widgets still use --font setting, but the text
area always uses some unknown anti-aliased font, no matter what fontspec I
give for --textfont.  I'll try to diagnose this further if I get the time...

What if you start xxdiff without any options, change the font settings using the xxdiff menu, save it with "File->Save Options" and restart?
