Package: file
Version: 4.17-4
Severity: wishlist

        Hi there,

While building "rpm", I noticed it uses an internal embedded copy of
 "file" (which isn't up-to-date BTW). RPM's configure.ac has some
logic to build with an external libmagic, but unfortunately rpmfile.c
 #includes patchlevel.h and file.h which are not in libmagic-dev.

These are unlikely to be part of the API, but perhaps you could ship
them nevertheless in some non-default include dir so that RPM can be
built with Debian's file nevertheless? i.e.
 /usr/lib/file/include/file.h and patchlevel.h, and I would pass
 -I/usr/lib/file/include to CFLAGS.

   Bye,
