Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

thanks for aptitude, it's great software. And thanks for implementing
some debtags support in it!

aptitude reads tag data from the Packages file, which is good,
especially in case debtags is not installed.

In case debtags is installed, however, it can be set up to merge
different tag sources together. This can be used by CDDs, or to
aggregate 3rd party categories like the ones provided by
iterating.org[1].

The merged tag database is available both as a binary index and as the
text file /var/lib/debtags/package-tags

It would be really good if, in case /var/lib/debtags/package-tags is
present, the tag data would be taken from there instead of the Packages
file.

(note: if you are considering taking advantage of the mmap-able binary
index as well, let me know and I'll do my best to help)

Ciao,

Enrico
