Package: nvidia-kernel-common
Version: 20051028+1
Severity: minor

Hi Randall

Afer reporting #400129, I thought I'd check the legacy packages.

>From a clean state, aptitude install nvidia-glx-legacy wants to install

  kernel-package nvidia-kernel-common nvidia-kernel-legacy-2.6.18-1-486
  nvidia-kernel-source

The nvidia-kernel-source isn't useful with -glx-legacy. kernel-package
and nvidia-kernel-source are both unnecessary iff users can use pre-built
kernel module packages from the debian archive.

Both are pulled in via nvidia-kernel-common recommending
nvidia-kernel-source | nvidia-kernel

Nvidia-kernel doesn't seem to exist in sid/etch. Since the -glx packages
depend on an appropriate kernel module package, and the kernel module
packages all depend on nvidia-kernel-common, I suggest either dropping
the recommends completely or changing it to
Suggests: nvidia-kernel-source | nvidia-kernel-legacy-source.

If you wish to use recommend, a better solution would be to have the
-glx packages recommend the appropriate kernel-source packages.

I will understand if you decide to defer this until after etch.

Thanks

Andrew V.
