Sorry to contradict you, but now I am using xdslusb-source in 2.6.8
and it is working fine. The problem was with 2.4.

THe xdslusb binary package has bugs indeed, I am preparing a patch to
solve some of them...

Please don't remove it from debian as it is the only choice we have to
use conextant modems
