Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-486
Version: 2.6.18-6
Severity: normal

When trying to install an additional Harddisk, I noted that fdisk reported a
wrong size for it.
Some investigation revealed that /proc/ide/hdc/geometry reported
physical 16383/16/63 # this is ok
logical 58140/16/63 # this is wrong

fdisk reported
Disk /dev/hdc: 30.0 GB, 30005821440 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 3648 cylinders

sfdisk -g
/dev/hdc: 58140 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors/track

sfdisk -G
Warning: extended partition does not start at a cylinder boundary.
DOS and Linux will interpret the contents differently.
/dev/hdc: 3648 cylinders, 255 heads, 63 sectors/track

I have seen this behavior on linux-image-2.6.17-2-{4,5}86, too.
It is present on at least three different computers
