Let's try to explain things better... The problem is *not* that the source for the stable version of the manual is not distributed: it is, and that's OK. Hence the wishlist severity of the bug. The problem is: figuring out where to get the source by looking at the webpage[1] is not made easy. In that page[1] there are links for a great number of compiled versions of the manual, but no direct link the the source. I searched inside the page and found no hints. I found hints to use the subversion repository elsewhere, tried to dig the WebSVN interface and got lost. Only *then* I remembered that the manual is also packaged and thus found the source tar archive[2]. I could have been smarter in the first place, I admit it's my poor brain's fault, but anyway why not making things easier? I've been using Debian since 2002 and I don't consider myself a totally inexperienced user. Just imagine some casual Gordon Gpllover that knows little about Debian and wants (for reasons unknown) to redistribute a PDF version of the stable Debian installation guide. He does *not* know that the manual is also packaged: he finds the webpage[1] and downloads the PDF. He reads that the guide is under the GNU GPL and thus knows that he must make the source available in order to redistribute it (Gordon knows little about Debian, but is quite familiar with the GNU GPL license!). In this scenario, a little link to the tar archive[2] from the webpage[1] would do the trick and make Gordon's life much easier... I hope I clarified what I meant.
