Okay, that makes sense. Thanks.

Hmmm. "Convenience" is an interesting term. Without a kernel module
produced from the source contained in 'oprofile-source', systems
with 2.[24].x kernels will not be able to run the user-space tools
in the package 'oprofile' (2.6 kernels will not have this problem).
However, because 'oprofile' cannot determine which kernel will be
in use when it is run, we decided not to force a "Depends:" on a
'kernel-oprofile-module' in the package so the user has greater
flexibility.

So, I need an opinion, I guess: is it reasonable to make the user
create their own kernel modules in those cases? If they are using
something like 'oprofile,' they had better know what they're doing,
so that's not unreasonable, but it might be inconvenient, and it
affects a (possibly large) subset of all possible users. If it's
not reasonable, I'll leave this bug as is and put together the proper
packaging to build all the various modules from source.
