I don't know if it is important but i'm not using a GNOME desktop, as my machine would be unable to handle such a load, so i'm running gnome-terminal inside a ion3 environnement prepared through im-switch. The input mode switch correctly with the keyboard shorcut, and i'm fully able to enter japanese characters.
