Thanks for thinking out this idea of a common configuration 
file. I think the idea has many good aspects that would help in
particular with more complex setups (LVM, raid). Unfortunately
I've been so busy that I've not managed to really sit down and
think this through until now. I hope to get to it sometime this
weekend and write a more detailed reply. 

Just a thought: I think the configuration file would be useful
in a larger context than Debian. Maybe it would be good so send
a description to the linux-crypto mailinglist[0] to see if other
distributors/users and maybe Jari have some thoughts on what they
would need in terms of features/flexibility in it or have some
other ideas regarding it. It would be great if something like it
could be adopted cross-distribution IMHO.
