Hi, Smstools (also 1.x) supports PDU messages and this mode is also a default. Older versions of smstools supports ASCII mode also, but this should be used for testing purposes only. Current versions (2.x and 3.x) do not support ASCII mode anymore. If an ASCII mode is defined, modem is initialized to the ASCII mode. However, if a received message contains characters outside ascii table, message is still received as PDU from the modem. Smstools 1.x is unable to check this and therefore a PDU is stored to the incoming message file. So my quess is that you have mode = ascii set in your smsd.conf and in this case you should remove this setting or change it to mode = new. After this change no external character set conversion is required unless UTF-8 is used as locale. Smstools uses ISO character set in the files and necessary conversion can be done by using the checkhandler and eventhandler features. Take a look at the next releases, they will include instructions about how this conversion can be done. Instructions can also be found on the support website.

Hope this helps.

Keke
