Yeah, these are obvious thing, but I don't see that you've done them.
Given noticeable differences between the 12/13 and 12/15 Debian AMD64 install CDs, I'll try today's install disk.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll send /proc/cpuinfo if today's disk doesn't work.
