Package: debian-reference

There's no mention in debian-reference on how to get sound working.
With Etch with 2.6 kernel with udev it really isn't much but if a newbie
doesn't choose a full whopping desktop environment its not clear how to
do it.

I suggest something like:

------

To get sound working, install the packages alsa-base, alsa-utils, and
alsaplayer-common and all their dependancies. Once installed, as root
run alsaconf. Adjust mixer settings with alsamixer or you can install a
graphical mixer program for e.g. gnome. If you want to play media,
install a media player e.g. vlc.

If this doesn't work, subscribe to the debian-user mailing list and post
questions there.

-----

Thanks,

Doug.
