Actually, it isn't an endianness issue :) xman tries at build time to find the path to the manpages, and if /etc/manpath.config doesn't exist (which is the case on buildds) it'll fall back to a value which doesn't seem to work on linux. Looking at your strace output, it seems to only look in /usr/man.
