This is not true. It is perfectly legal to upload a new package starting with *-2 or greater. I have done this recently with a package that I maintain, called xmds. If you look at its debian/changelog[1] you will see that the first official version of the package was 1.5.3-2. Of course, the uploader must be careful in calling dpkg-buildpackage with the appropriate -sa option, such that the original source will be included in the upload. > So anyone who updated from this repository over the last couple > hours should probably purge their dkg-handwriting package.
