I had trouble identifying what you were referring to here, so for
clarification:

The package name is python-libhamlib2, which per the python policy is to be
used for extensions that provide support for /usr/bin/python.  The package
Depends: python (>= 2.3), which implies that python-libhamlib2 is usable
with versions of /usr/bin/python of 2.3 and above.  But this is not the
case, because it only ships the binaries for python2.4.  Thus, the package
will be installable on partially-upgraded sarge systems when it shouldn't,
as well as on future versions of Debian where python2.5 is the default
python version.
